Textile Problems

I know there has been problems in the past with textile working, but I thought the new version had fixed that (I upgraded a couple of weeks ago.)

In fact I have checked all the forum posts and confirmed that in my installation line 12 of textile.php does read return $textile->TextileRestricted($text, false, false);.

Nevertheless, I can't get textile to work at all in the messages. The weird thing is that a test message I had posted in a test project a while back with textile formatting does look like it renders properly, but when I edit even that message with the exact same number signs to form a numbered list the new text is not formatted at all.

Any ideas what is happening here?

Another weird thing is that the exclamation points I put before and after a url with an image does make that image successfully appear in the project description , but number signs and asterisks will not make lists???
