Release 0.8.5 - to be code named Santa Monica
Submitted by Jon on Sun, 05/10/2009 - 02:06.
Project releases without code names are just boring to me. Aside from being cool, using a code name simply makes life easier. So, I would like to propose the code name "Santa Monica" for ProjectPier 0.8.5 which is set for beta release at the end of May. "Santa Monica" is a reference to the famous Santa Monica Pier ("ProjectPier"-I'm sure you get the connection).
So, there you have it, "ProjectPier 0.8.5 - Santa Monica"
You can find many pictures of the world famous Santa Monica Pier with this Google image search: Santa Monica Pier Search.
Comments are welcome.

At first, I was thinking "hum, is Jon living in Santa Monica?". But I got it, and I like it!
The question is, will there be enough famous piers for future releases?
Pier 39 in San Francisco? (or Fisherman's wharf)
That's all I have.
Tim
I like the idea! It makes things more human friendly, as they should to be.

I live in Long Beach, CA, and there are some great piers around here, including Huntington Beach Pier. Great idea! I'm looking forward to the next release and hope to follow development and begin contributing as I can. Thanks again!
well worth the read. thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the subject. greetings
I'm stoked! I had been using Collabtive for quite a while but very recently recently ran into ProjectPier and instantly switched. There are some snazzy things about Collabtive (like the jQuery animations, modal views for images, etc) but ProjectPier blows it out of the water as far as functionality and stability. I can add the frills myself, but you got it right where it counts. Keep up the great work!
Jordan, if you add those jQuery frills, views, etc, maybe share with the ProjectPier community, I'd like to see some of that... :)
Yes, if you've got a cool patch to PP, please submit it in the tracker. Instructions for creating a patch can be found here: http://www.projectpier.org/patch
I definitely will if I can get it sorted out. The two things I'm working on are an upload progress bar and modal displays for image files (or at least bypassing the forced download so you can view it in your browser window).
So far I've been having a miserable time finding a solution for the former that doesn't conflict with the existing js library (YUI). The only method I could find that works with YUI relies on flash for the interface as well as the progress bar which is no good. Also looking at something like http://uber-uploader.sourceforge.net/ but that requires the APC extension which might not be ideal for all users, and doesn't seem like it will be very easy to integrate with PP. Not giving up yet, but I unfortunately don't have enough time to really get going with it and I'm far from an expert coder.
Jordan,
We are working on integrating lytebox for previewing images so they don't have to be downloaded to see them. It will be in the next beta release of 0.8.5.
I absolutely love the idea of an upload progress meter!

Fantastic.

Its very nice to read that ProjectPier 0.8.5 is set for beta release and its also very intereseting to know that its name was referenced to "SANTA MONICA".
ProjectPier was very beneficial and provided a lot of jobs and hopefully version ProjectPier 0.8.5 will provide more.
This was really interesting, I enjoyed reading it, thanks a lot for bringing this up
