Setting date in vmware linux does not show in project pier

I have successfully set the date and time correctly in my webmin on mu turnkey vmware. However my project pier running on top of this always shows date off by 1 day in future.
Where is project pier getting this date from ?

Is there a reason that project pier time is 6 hours ahead of my Linux system time ? Can i see Central Time instead of GMT which makes it look like i am late ?
The user profiles by default are created in GMT. Even if we set the system time to GMT-6 the user profiles make the error. Once i set the user profiles to GMT-6 it all worked like a charm.
