Enhance tasks
I would like to see the 'Tasks' enhanced to allow better scheduling and traceability.
Ideally I would have:
- Projected start dates.
- Projected completion dates.
- Dependencies with other tasks/mile stones.
- Linking back to any eventual issue tracking system.
Ok, this lot may look a little MS Project(ish). But, in my defence, when managing projects I find that I need to spend a lot of time ensuring that I have enough work for my time to keep them going from month to month. As they are largely contractors, the ability to actively plan their time allows to plan cash flow and recruitment. So, the ability to see how much work they have and how long it will take is a real bonus.
It will also indicate how achievable the Milestones really are.
Actually, thinking about it - as a project manager, the ability to see a projected timeline for each of my time would be useful.
Sorry - this has gone a bit train of thought.
I may have to look at implementing these anyway...if I make them work I'll look at sending the changes.
Peace,
G

I can understand these features, but I am not sure if adding those fields to the tasks will clutter the GUI (it already does that at GoPlan > check it out with the free account) and I don't like that.
One possible solution might be to provide a plug-in functionality in PP so that you can have a "pro" version of the task module (maybe adding the fields on installation which will not be displayed if the "pro task" wich will be switched off?). We are currently discussion a plug-in architecture but need some help from an experienced PHP programmer who is willing to work this out with us.

I like the idea of providing a switch to select or deselect the functionality. Like I said, I would probably looking at implementing this myself anyway - can't imagine it is overly complicated.
I would also like to combine it with time recording and resource management modules. With quite a large (and expensive) pool of contracted developers working for my team, the ability to monitor and assign work is something that I would REALLY like.
Sort of a projects management system that sits above the projects. Welcome to 'software for the enterprise' eh?
I'd prefer use task durations and leave the due dates to the milestones.
A milestone is set with my partners and clients but the main info i need to evaluate how achievable the milestone really is are my tasks durations.
With this basic data we could easily estimate the overall duration of the tasklists.

I'd love deadlines for tasks! It's one of the most wanted feature requests I've came across when presenting ProjectPier. Another one is milestone calendar :-). So please, Please - make it happen :-).
Thanks,
Maciej
I can see a project's begin date and end date being necessary and Milestones have dates to keep the timeline but wow, not EVERY task. Just make more milestones. Perhaps your tasks are all milestones.
It would be cool to have a scroll bar with the begin date at the top and the end date at the bottom with the milestones listed in between. Then in between the milestones are the number of days. The milestones can then be dragged up and down the scroll bar, fine tuning the days needed for each. an option to re-order milestones, thus creating dependency.
sounds cool right? not majorly needed but cool.
I just signed up to request this very feature. I personally don't like much the tasks LIST feature, and IMHO a more powerful TASK element would be very useful.
To keep the UI clean, I would only add a [X] Deadline checkbox. When enabled, a date field would appear.
Thanks for Project Pier. I plan to test it on a real project.
I tried to implement PP to my organization (NGO, when everything is voluntary) and had this feedback:
- how can I join new project or take new task, if I don't know how much work I already have this week? I can only see that there is lots of work at all!
Have you planned to add "due to" or something similar to tasks? Is it going to be a plugin or a part of PP? When would it be available?
Sorry, I am new here, I don't really know yet where to find this information:)
I can't do the feature myself. But what I can do is to take care of polish translations!
Best,
Ania
On the dashboard there is a tab called 'My tasks'. It has a list of every task the user is assigned to.
There are currently no plans to implement 'due on' dates, however if you want to request this feature, then make an issue in the tracker ( http://projectpier.org/project/issues ) and someone might be able to code something up
