Patches

All changes to 0.8.6 (languages, themes and patches) can be found here:

www.2share.com/pp086

A patch usually is a .zip that needs to be unzipped in the root directory of your installation (the directory where README.txt is located). It simply overwrites existing files or adds files to your installation. A patch always begins with a number that can be used to locate the corresponding item by forming the url www.projectpier.org/node/(the number).

Thanks for your great effort!

Maybe I'm simply not aware of the motivation behind this approach, but IMHO this is ridiculous. Manually applying patches can't be the recommended way, this is just too much work and makes it easy to miss out patches.

Minor revisions should be made available as soon as a critical bug is fixed or when some non-critical patches have accumulated. Why not release a 0.8.6.1 or even make it 0.8.7?

Additionally I'd love to have access to the source, including master and tags, so that I can simply pull the latest patches. Apologies if I've overlook the link for that. I could only find https://github.com/rzelnik/Project-Pier and https://github.com/dbernar1/Project-Pier but neither are the official repository, or are they? https://github.com/phpfreak/Project-Pier seems to be totally outdated.

Sorry if this sounds a little rough, but I think this approach is seriously hampering the hard work put into PP.

If you start apologizing then you know you used the wrong words.

I think I am simply going to ignore this.

Ok,

if the last sentence is bothering you, simply ignore it.

What about the rest? And if I'm not convincing you, you might want to take a look at http://producingoss.com/en/development-cycle.html, which has served other open source projects very well...

... this is pre-production software with a version number ZERO.something.

Obviously it would be great to just have an automatic update at some point in the future and a script to update the database tables if necessary, but in the meantime, I'm happy with manual patches. It's perhaps the most straightforward if all of us have different hosting solutions.

The worst about open source projects is not the sometimes tedious patching involved, but the demands by the users. Nobody forces you to use ProjectPier, so be kind and appreciative and you'll get plenty of help.

....absolutely agree, and thanks to the developers ... don“t get bothered by people which are still in the greed-stadium of life :-)

Hello,

I have translated ticket messages. You can get file here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kvvc87ofip924c3

And I would like to transalate default categories, Where are?

They can be set from the administrator user interface: Administration / Configuration / General

Did i miss username and password somewhere?

I could download without problems. You do have to click one more time on the link that is displayed.

I was actually referring to the online demo.

Just to be sure that I understand that correctly. To install the most recent version of 8.7. Beta I have to install the base module + all patches from www.2share.com/pp086. The other question is, if it is better to activate all modules before updating the database or to activate just the modules that where used in the previous version (in my case Santa Monica 8.5),

thx a lot for your help

8.7 has all the patches. No need to apply the pp086 patches.

Best activate all modules.

Just to be sure to get the latest 8.7. release for testing

is http://www.projectpier.org/node/2258 the correct link?

thx a lot, Dominik

Has 0.8.7 Final been released yet or is the beta still being tested?

It is still being tested.

I'm new to ProjectPier - running 0.8.6 and would like to install patches. When I go to the 2share site, it asks for my login and doesn't accept my ProjectPier info. Tried to find a page to sign up but couldn't - any advice that would help me access the patches? Love the software - thanks for all the hard work!

Just download from the login page:
