ideas for improving the calendar

Hi there,

I'm aware that the milestone calendar view is pretty new in projectpier (isn't it?); but I recognized some confusing behavior which I'd like to make clear.

First a small analysis, please correct me when I'm wrong: it seems that everything with a due date can be displayed in the calendar: milestones, task lists & tasks.
but: showing tasks in the calendar isn't as simple as it could be. On my installation, it works only in the following order of actions:
1. create milestone
2. assign tasklist with due date to milestone on milestone page
3. create task with due date in task list

Quite a few steps. Plus: it does _not_ work (showing the task in calendar) in the following way:
1. create a tasklist
2. create a task with due date
2. create a milestone
3. assign task list to milestone via task list options
-> not even the task list due date is shown when creating in that order. this seems to be a bug.

Additionaly to the bugfix...
* it would be nice if everything with a due date would show up in the calendar by default (same for the ical calendar)
* it would be nice to set what is shown on the calendar in the options menu. for example one could deactivate the task lists, which I personally one use because I have to. So in my case they have same names and due dates as milestones (same for the ical calendar)
* it would be nice to have a global calendar for all projects on the dashboard (or easy rechable from there). bonus: different projects in different colors. that would give the perfect overview what tasks should be done in which order across the projects. I think the logic behind this already exists, as the ical file shows all milestones across different projects.

what do you think?
thanks for your time.

best,
philipp

I cannot edit the post, so I'd like to refer to my first point of the "wishlist" above:
* it would be nice if everything with a due date would show up in the calendar by default (same for the ical calendar)
... that includes all tasks with a due date, even if the task-list does not have a due date and is not connected to a milestone. this necessary connection is quite confusing atm.

:)

hmm no reactions, which suprises me a little. is no one using the calendar for checking when to do what, or am I missing a feature which already can do this?

I will pick up your suggestions for 0.8.7

oh, wow, awesome :)

.8.7 was going to have a calendar fix, but I still can't show tasks on the calendar. Plus, following the initial poster's instructions, step by step, I wasn't even able to get tasks to show as the poster did. Please help.

just to support the wishlist of hundert

We also need what hundert has described above. Specifically we would like to have;
1. A Calender view that shows all tasks due dates (and who is responsible for the task) as well as milestone due dates. This would mean that as a manager I can view everyones work flow on a calender.
2. Obviously for non administrator users they would onyl need to see their own tasks ont he calender.
3. Administrators should be able to have th echoice to view just their own tasks, just a specific persons tasks, or everyones tasks on a calender.
4. 100% agree the calender should show all projects ideally in a different colour per project this would make managing work flow a lot easier.

Also at the moment when I click the icalender button in project pier it opens outlook and creates a calender in there, I could really do for it not to do that, instead it shoudl allow me to select what calender I want it to add to (I want it on my google calender so I can use it on all my devices and not just on my outlook calender which I no longer use).

These 4 points hereabove are more than helpful.
Are they eventually planned in a near roadmap ?

Thanks in advance

Copy the link and go to your google calendar:
add a new calendar via link
post the link in the form

and voila you should have a new agenda right from PP

I followed these instructions and a calendar was created in google for my project but nothing is in it, none of my milestones or tasks.

Also, do you know a way to have all projects in google, or would I need to create a different calendar for each project?

My preference would be to have a calendar in projectpier that shows tasks, but alas, I can't seem to make that happen.

Thanks!
