Convert from dbsystem to filesystem

Hello,
we have been using the PP with the DB system for the last 3 years, presently on 8.8., which worked well. But when we need to transfer or reinstall the database it gets more and more difficult, most probably due to different server restriction we cannot influence. Right now I think the best solution for us would be switching from dbstorage to filestorage, as this would "dramatically" reduce the database size and we could transfer the file system via FTP. I have read http://www.projectpier.org/node/2439 which was just about that issue, but found no script for PP 8.8. inside.
Thanks for any help on how to accomplish that ...
