i can also help, once i get this thing correct...
now im been beaten down. i was to try an old pt_br file and it borked the install, now i cant make it work. drop database and fresh files still generate error searching for pt_br files. :/

it has something to the folder layout... pt_br/pt_br.php and pt_br/pt_br ... probabbly this changed and no luck with old layout. but dunno where it is getting the language setting. i droped the database and changed all files... it still grabs the pt_br language! :(

We already have a translator for pt_br.
But maybe you can contact him, and ask if he needs some help?
His name in the forum is jp.joao , try his contact form.
For now the system allows only for one translator to work on it. But collaboration sure is possible.
I noticed jp.joao has updated the translation pretty good, so here is the translation (! stil in alpha !) jp.joao made. (it is for 0.8.8)

I've downloaded and applied his translations and they are superb!
I've tried to contact jp.joao throurh a thread but I'll give the contact form a shot.
I'm able to help with PHP and jQuery as well, solving bugs and etc. I'll be reporting bugs as a starter (it's hard for us mortals to help in such projects because they already seem so organized and impenetrable. I guess it's just a fear of the unknown).

could you explained how you did it?
i downloaded and it has 2 files.
pt_br.php that checks where it is loading from and a pt_br_all.php (an array with the translations)
before it used to have mutiple files.
i tried putting this 2 files under language/pt_br/ but no luck!

solved.
i had all the plugins activated some of them had conflict with it. disabling all solved the issue.
dunno yet which one exactly, but worked! \o/

glad you solved it. funny thing is I had almost all plugins turned on, except for one or two (which I can't really check right now cuz I'm stuck upgrading PP from alpha to stable and waiting for some support). =)
