best way to setup for privacy between users

Hi people,

Im evaluating projectpier to set a collaboration server here. The scenario is a group of workers and a boss. So I've installed pier and Im doing some tests to check if it fits. It seems to fit just fine.

I have set the boss user in the main company, and Ive set a client company where the other users should be (or should I set everybody in the master company, but as unprivileged users? Or one company per unprivileged user?). My only issue so far is that it is a must that the users send confidential reports to the boss, stuff like performance evaluation, things that should be personal between the boss and each user. Else they will have to use a collaboration site and make some extra pages just for doing those types of private reports.

So what would be the best way to achieve this? I see there is a form feature, and I thought it could be the solution, Im not sure. Problem is that its public to people in some task. Maybe I should try with add form to message.

What would be the best way to do that? Make the boss create personal tasks and create a form for each one? Put each user in a different client company? The options enabled and visible Im not sure what they do. Im having a little trouble in getting everything private, and with the permissions, I guess heh.

thanks in advance

Well, creating a form related to a message creates comments in the message, like a forum. But the users can create comments without the form existing anyway, so the different form usage is attached to tasks, which lets users create more tasks, is that it?

Ive got an idea now of setting a project for each user, so through this project the user and the boss can share a private channel, and nobody would be able to see. But by doing that I would also have to create other projects for the situations when a group of the unprivileged users should colaborate. Would be a but messy, but I think Ill test that.

Suggestions are welcome, Ive been testing just for a couple of days.

I am unclear as to what type of situation you are trying to setup, or how you want things to work. ProjectPier is designed around projects and the collaborative tasks and communication revolving around those projects. It kind of sounds like you are looking for a human resources management system or maybe some sort of other system, which might not be applicable to ProjectPier.

What are you trying to collaborate on? So far, I would suggest setting up the users based on their company structure. So, users internal to your company are part of the "owner company" and other users are part of different companies. Then any "projects" can be configured with the different permissions for different users (including no permissions).

Hi,

You are more or less correct.

The scenario is that there is a team of people working in some stuff and there is the leader of this team. During the course of work, they do normal collboration, share info, create tasks, mostly stuff that the leader assign to the normal people.

But in special situations, like end of some projects, or every 2 months, everybody should report a couple of information to the leader. Its like a performance/evaluation report.

The initial idea was to use the collaboration server (projetcpier) for the collaboration and create some separate forms (a one page php or something, or even tell people to fill a document or spreadsheet) to do those confidential reports to the leader. Doing this report without having a separate page from pier is what I would like to achieve.

So I think that clears the stuff. I want them to be able to collaborate in a normal way but in special situation I want that all the normal users of the system to be able to send or receive stuff from the leader in a confidential way, thats what I havent got much sucess by now (for example the comments and stuff are echoed in the overview page for everyone), but Im still testing how would be a good way to achieve that.

thanks for the answer

Hello druid,

you suggested that yourself, but wouldn't creating a specific project for each user work?

As you said, it could be bit messy, especially for the leader because s/he would see one extra project for each user, but otherwise it seems to me that it would do the trick as long as you set the permissions properly.
I haven't tested it myself but from what I remember it should work: leader and users discussing through the website but only users added to the projects would see the activity.
