Wiki-like page (for Dashboard?)

Hi,

I'm just starting to set up a number of work projects in PP and excited about it. It is clear tremendous work has been done and I appreciate all the things PP has to offer.

Still, there are obviously things that it doesn't (such as a dedicated calendar) or can't (such as things any specific person might need).

Is there a way now or does it seem desirable to people to have the ability to set up a page in PP that was almost like a wiki page? I'm thinking of a space (maybe on the dashboard) where a google calendar could be embedded or links to other pages could be placed?

When I was testing Central Desktop (a similar collaborative online project management app. to PP) I started using that function of it more and more because many people didn't want to deal with the whole structure of the site, but like to go to a page that had a bunch of links on it with descriptions of exactly what they were. This served as a great "splash" page even if the links were to other parts of the site as they already existed.

I'm not so savvy with programming or maybe I could figure this out on my own, but I'm hoping people can weigh in on this.

Thanks,
Tate.

Hey Tate,

Glad you're enjoying the project. While there isn't exactly the feature you are talking about, something I will point out is the "description" part of the project. You have the option of displaying the description and then using that text field to put links/info/etc there. Its not revision controlled like a wiki, but several other people have used it this way (for example a link to a bug tracker or other sites).

Thanks Ryan - that is a great idea and all I'm really looking for at the moment.

I do think having more flexibility to add a greater range of content to pages within PP (like a wiki even though revision control isn't as important to me) would be nice because you would never get the feeling you left the environment of the PP site.

Is there an easy way (in Dreamweaver, for instance) that I can create a page that is (or looks like it is) part of the PP site (at least in theme)?

I realize this is ambiguous, but that is what I'm going to try to do with whatever page is linked from the description.

Thanks for the good idea and advice.

Ryan's suggestion is great -- BUT, is it possible to hyperling the link-text?

Hi Paul,

ProjectPier uses the Textile syntax, so to add a link, you need to type
"text of the link":http:/www.example.com

Textile syntax does NOT appear to work in a Task description.

but that's by design...
It has been discussed in the issue tracker to be changed. It would make sense to change it I think.
