OpenID integration

Can I promote the integration of PP with OpenID for authentication.
In my (limited) view this is the best way of authenticating internet users, and allowing single-sign-on for web delivered services.
It can be viewed as a compliment to LDAP authentication (http://www.projectpier.org/node/828) for intranet use.

either openid or ldap with PP?
I am aware of at least one person actively working on getting LDAP authentication working - not sure if he has finished it yet. I also know there was some work done on OpenID support, but again not sure if it was finished/ready for deployment.
Is there anywhere we can track the progress of ldap auth, or is it a private endeavor?
