SMTP on 1and1 and GMail

Hi there!

I host PP on 1and1 and all seems to work fine but the SMTP server.

I tried to configure the SMTP server both with the 1and1 SMTP server and GMail SMTP server but with no success...

I did for 1and1:
smtp server
auth.smtp.1and1.fr
587
auth: yes
full email address
password
TLS and SSL (I tried both)

and for GMail:
smtp server
smtp.gmail.com
587
auth: yes
full email address
password
TLS and SSL (I tried both)

Does anybody can help me?
